Is parental control needed if my child can only use devices in the common area?

Yes! Absolutely yes! Common space is not enough to protect your child unless you are sitting next to your child and watching the screen the entire time. I caught my 9-year-old foster kid watching porn in my living room when I thought he was playing a game. I could see him from the kitchen. He figured out how to trick me.

He knew that I was “monitoring” him by listening for the game music. As long I heard the game music, I was under the impression he was playing the game. When he saw me approaching, he would switch the screen.
